Save money while traveling
Since I started traveling the world in 2015, one of the most common questions I get is, “How do you manage to travel so much without breaking the bank?” Over the years, I’ve discovered a range of services and tools that have helped me explore 40+ countries without overspending.
From booking flights and accommodation to managing my budget on the road, these resources have become essential to my travel lifestyle.
On this page, I’ve gathered all the services I personally use and trust, so you can save time, money, and effort as you plan your own adventures. These recommendations will help you experience the world more easily and affordably.
Booking accommodation
HostelWorld
This platform is my favorite service to find great hostel deals. The interface is easy to use, and prices are excellent.
Booking.com
I use booking when I can't find a good option on HostelWorld or when I feel like staying in a Hotel or private accommodation. Booking is a good option when traveling with friends because you can make a reservation and pay when you arrive.
Airbnb
At least once per month, I feel like having my own place, with a nice kitchen to cook in and a good living room to play my video games (I'm a gamer!!) and relax. When that's the case, Airbnb is my option to find a place.
Booking flights
Kiwi
I really love Kiwi, and I use their services very often!! The tool is incredible, with many features so you can easily find the perfect flight. There's an option called Nomad, where you can set up multiple destinations, and Kiwi will show you the best prices. The interface is super simple, so don't be shy about trying out this powerful tool.
SkyScanner
This is my backup option when I want to double-check prices on a different service to compare. Their option to check flights to the entire world is very handy. A list of options is created and sorted by the cheapest destinations in the city from which you choose to fly.
Booking land transportation
Omio
This service works flawlessly in Europe when I am looking for train rides. Recently, they also integrated bus rides into the platform, which is more convenient.
Discover Cars
The best platform to find rentals at affordable prices. Their customer service is excellent. I once had one problem with a rental, where I had to activate the insurance. They helped sort everything very fast without major issues.
Flixbus
Modern buses and cheap prices are the best way to describe Flixbus. So far, I have used this service only in Europe, but they are also in other continents, like Chile. They use a very modern non-paper system, and for more convenience, you can download their app and buy tickets there. The app shows a QR code to the driver.
Booking activities
Get Your Guide
My favorite platform for finding activities in a city. The interface is easy to use, and most activities are reasonably priced. Most of the activities offered are from local agencies in the destination.
Airbnb Experiences
I used this platform a lot to find more unique experiences. What makes Airbnb experiences special for me is that most of the activities are offered by locals or expats living in the destination for many years. It's an excellent opportunity to experience something very local during your trip.
Viator
This is the platform I use less frequently to find activities, and the reason for that is that their prices are always higher compared with GetYourGuide or Airbnb experiences for similar tours. The platform is easy to use, and I found unique experiences in some destinations, which is why I booked those tours.
Other resources
AirHelp
I am constantly on the move, so it happens flights are delayed or canceled, disrupting my trip and sometimes causing me to spend extra money on accommodation due to the availability of the next flight. If I am entitled to receive compensation, I can use AirHelp to fill out the necessary data and create a compensation request easily.
Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is an amazing community of travelers worldwide. I have hosted many people in my house in the last few years. My experience using this platform is very good. There, I met interesting travelers with exciting stories, and at the same time, I was their local friend, helping them to explore my city. Couchsurfing offers excellent cultural exchange between travelers.
